Book Launch with Signe Biering Röpke & Anatolie Cantir

We invite you to a book launch with two prominent voices when it comes to international perspectives, belonging and culture.
Together, Signe Biering Röpke and Anatolie Cantir publish their new book “The (Un)Happiest Expats in the Happiest Country in the World” and the official book launch takes place in Borgernes Hus in Odense.
In the book, the authors invite us to reflect – on Denmark, on belonging, and on what it means to feel at home in a country that prides itself on equality, trust, and happiness.
It began as a conversation between two people who have lived both inside and outside Danish culture, sometimes comfortably, sometimes uneasily. Signe was born here and returned after years abroad; Anatolie came from abroad and made Denmark home. They have both belonged and not belonged.
During the event, Signe and Anatolie will elaborate on the central themes and points of the book and what to do about them. They will look at the paradoxes through the lens of five deeply rooted Danish values: Equality, Trust, Independence, Privacy, and Humor.
Their central argument is that these same cherished values – admired both inside and outside Denmark – can present invisible challenges for expats trying to integrate and feel at home. This is not because one culture is better than another, but because both Danes and expats often overlook the powerful cultural expectations that lie beneath the surface.
