Starting July 1, 2025, Denmark will assume the presidency of the Council of the European Union. This means Denmark will lead political negotiations during a time marked by major challenges: the war in Ukraine, the green energy transition, migration, economic competition with the U.S. and China—and increasing pressure on European unity.

But what can Denmark bring to the table? And what does the future of the EU look like in light of global challenges and internal tensions?

We warmly invite international residents in Denmark to join an open discussion on the future of the EU and Denmark’s role.

During the evening, Anna Vlasiuk Nibe (Assistant Professor, University of Southern Denmark) and Rasmus Nørlem Sørensen (United Nations Association and EU Bureau) will share insights and lead a conversation on:

What is the EU’s role today, and how does it act globally? Where should cooperation be strengthened? Who should we collaborate with?
What can international residents in Denmark expect from EU developments in the coming years

There will be time for questions and dialogue with the audience.

For international residents in Denmark, this is a key moment:
As an EU citizen, you have the right to vote and run in local elections, including the upcoming municipal and regional elections on November 18. You can also participate in European Citizens’ Initiatives and engage in public debate.

Even for international residents from outside the EU, there are great opportunities to take part in local democratic life—through associations, public discussions, and community networks. That’s why the presidency is a perfect occasion to explore how everyone living in Denmark can have a voice in shaping Europe’s future.
